Patricia L. Kelly

Bio

Patricia Kelly started working at Esdaile, Barrett & Esdaile when she was in law school. For more than 30 years, she has been committed to the representation of individuals and families who have been seriously injured. The primary focus of her practice is civil litigation, ranging from simple to complex, including motor vehicle liability, premises liability, construction site liability, products liability, and medical malpractice. She is known for fighting on behalf of her clients, many of whom have catastrophic injuries, against the businesses and parties who were responsible for their injuries. As a result of her hard work and commitment to helping her clients, she has had many successful verdicts and settlements.

Professional Accomplishments

Patty has helped to achieve many multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements, including a $15 million settlement in a construction/product liability case and a $30 million settlement in a gas explosion. She was instrumental in persuading the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts to change the deadline for filing lawsuits in medical malpractice cases, thereby permitting a young man with cancer to bring a claim against the doctors who missed the diagnosis. She was also involved in the trial and appeal of a case where the Supreme Judicial Court upheld a judgment of more than $500,000 against an insurance company that tried to wrongfully reduce a $20,000 insurance policy by $2,200.

Patty has volunteered to educate other lawyers and law students by authoring legal publications, serving as a faculty member and lecturer in continuing legal education, and serving as a judge in moot court competitions. She has also volunteered in the courts as a mediator and has worked privately as a mediator and arbitrator.
